Midway to Downtown Chicago
This is the working midway to downtown chicago guide we use internally at Royal Carriage. The numbers are current to 2026; the venues are real Chicago locations; the timing is what we actually see happen on Friday and Saturday nights across our fleet. Bookmark this before you book.

Drive Time and Traffic by Hour
From O’Hare baggage claim to downtown is 35-45 minutes off-peak and 55-75 minutes during rush hour (7-9 AM and 4-7 PM). The Kennedy is the standard route; I-90 toll is the rush-hour alternative. Friday evenings westbound and Sunday afternoons inbound are the two worst windows.
The Midway limo is flight-tracked end to end — if the inbound delays, the pickup adjusts without a phone call. The airport limo service runs the same flight-tracking automatically.
Flat-Rate Pricing
From Midway to downtown, flat rates start at $89 for a sedan and $109 for a Cadillac Escalade. Mercedes S-Class is $125. All rates include the standard toll, bottled water, and driver gratuity 18-20% added separately.
The Cadillac Escalade is the standard sedan rate. For groups of 5+, escalate to the book online in 60 seconds.
Vehicle by Headcount
1-4 passengers with light luggage: sedan (Mercedes S-Class or Cadillac CT6). 4-6 passengers or heavier luggage: full-size SUV (Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator). 7-14 passengers with luggage: Mercedes Sprinter. 15-30 passengers: party bus or 26-passenger mini bus. 31+ passengers: motor coach.
When the group is on the edge between two vehicles (7 passengers — sedan or Sprinter?), default up. The price difference is small and the comfort difference is large. The airport limo service is the most-booked option for 5-12 passenger groups. See the Mercedes S-Class for full vehicle photos.

“MDW pickup at 4:15 AM, Cadillac CT6, driver had a bottle of water and the heat already cranked because it was 14°.”

Downtown Drop-Off Points That Save Time
For downtown drop-offs, three points save real time. The Drake’s porte cochère under the Walton Street side avoids Michigan Avenue traffic. Trump Tower’s Wabash Avenue entrance is faster than the Michigan side after 3 PM. The Peninsula’s Superior Street entrance avoids the daytime taxi-Uber pile-up on Chicago Avenue.
For the book online in 60 seconds, the driver will route to the side entrance by default. The fleet drivers do the same.
Flight Tracking and Delays at MDW
Royal Carriage pulls inbound flight status from FlightAware as soon as the booking is made. If the flight delays, the pickup time adjusts automatically — no phone call needed. If the flight is cancelled and re-booked to a different time, the system picks up the change within 5 minutes.
For international arrivals, customs typically adds 20-45 minutes — the driver pads the meet-time accordingly. The airport limo service runs flight-tracking on every airport booking. The Mercedes S-Class runs the same.
Booking Tips
Book 8 weeks out for Saturday nights between May and October. Confirm exact pickup addresses 48 hours before the date — not the day of. Pad your start time by 30 minutes; Friday traffic from the suburbs into the Loop runs 25-40% longer than Google Maps predicts.
Name a single point of contact for the group. The driver should have one phone number, not seven. Pay the deposit on a card that has a high enough limit for the full balance — split-payment at the end of the night slows everyone down. For a one-touch booking, use the book online in 60 seconds flow or call (224) 801-3090 to lock the fleet.
Talk to a real Chicago dispatcher. Call (224) 801-3090 or request a custom quote for a written same-day quote. Royal Carriage has run Chicago routes for 14+ years.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a airport limo?
For Saturdays in May, June, September and October — book 60-90 days out. For Friday corporate runs — 1-2 weeks is usually fine. For airport runs — 24-48 hours is the practical minimum during peak season.
Is the price flat or hourly?
Airport runs are almost always flat rate. Event work (weddings, proms, nights out) is hourly with a 3-hour minimum on weekend evenings.
What’s included in the price?
Base rate + standard tolls. Gratuity (15-20%) is typically added separately, as is event parking. Bottled water is standard in every Royal Carriage vehicle.
What if my plans change?
Free cancellation 24 hours out for most events. Inside 24 hours on a wedding or event date typically forfeits the deposit. Airport runs are more flexible.
